The Institute for Eurasian Turkic Studies

Recently, from inside and outside of the country, Eurasian initiatives and Silk Road policies have been magnified. Therefore, the awareness of research on Eurasia and past Silk Road countries are increasing. Nevertheless, Turkic people, who played the leading role previously, are not recognized by domestic academia.

Dongduk Women’s University established the Institute for Eurasian Turkic Studies to fill the domestic research gap on the subject and emphasize the necessity of Eurasian Turkic research.

Countries consisting of typical Turkic peoples are Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Republics of the Russian Federation are the Altai Republic, the, Sakha Republic, the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Tuva Republic, and the Republic of Khakassia. Lastly, and the Xinjiang autonomous region of the People’s Republic of China has a significant Turkic population.

Since these Turkic countries form a singular belt from East Asia to Anatolia, through Central Asia, that expanse of land can be called a "Turkic belt." These Turkic belt countries not only acted as the central axis of Eurasia, but also had leading roles in the Silk Road.

The institute was established for researchers that major in essential fields such as politics, economics, society, history, language, literature, culture, art, etc. concerning Turkic belt countries of Eurasia and they perform close joint research. Comparative study is possible not only in Korea but also countries that are close to each other.

Through this research, the institute takes an important role in Eurasian Turkic research in Korea. By conducting base research functions and cooperating with Eurasian Turkic institutes abroad, contribution for relationship enhancement with Turkic belt countries is ongoing.

Additionally, we are conducting academic and research projects by establishing cooperative systems with universities, research institutes, and international organizations in various Turkic countries as well as Korea.

We believe there will be numerous corrections needed because it is a new research institute. The Institute for Eurasian Turkic Studies (Dongduk Women's University) is an open research space for everyone.

We require your cooperation and interest. Thank you.
